Bio

Hello, my name is Carrie Irwin. I found yoga several years ago, when I was seeking relief from chronic low back pain and sciatic nerve pain down my right leg.

Discovery

For the first year, I only did Bikram Yoga, and I did find amazing relief from my pain and incredible gains in my core strength as well as my ability to concentrate. I also was amazed to find that yoga helped with symptoms of other chronic health issues I have spent a lifetime battling. I soon began to take other hot yoga classes like Power Vinyasa and Yoga Core.

I continued to explore and have a regular practice which includes both hot and “room temperature” yoga. I am a devoted practitioner of Hatha, Vinyasa, Bikram, and have started to delve deeper into Yin and Restorative yoga. I have fallen even more in love with yoga; the physical challenges and the flowing poses together create for me an emotional and spiritual process I have come to rely upon.

Training

It became apparent pretty shortly after adding the practice of other yoga styles to my regimen that I loved yoga so much I wanted to expand my knowledge and share my love of yoga. I attended the 230 hour teacher training through Asheville Yoga Center in June of 2016 and immediately began to seek opportunities to teach and share my passion for yoga with others. I am currently a registered 200 hour yoga instructor (200hr RYT) with the Yoga Alliance and am in the process of pursuing my 300 hour training through Asheville Yoga Center.

Background

I have been in the social services field working with children and families for over 17 years, with a strong emphasis on training and teaching others, so teaching yoga is a fairly smooth transition in my goal to help others. I love spending time with my husband, reading, and hiking. I am a mother of two adult daughters and an adult step son.

I am a nurturer by nature and look forward to exploring the benefits of yoga with my students. I believe that what really sold me on yoga was the moving meditation piece of it. I found that I have gained an incredible ability to breathe through just about anything that life throws my way, and I am eager to help others discover this for themselves.
